What's Your Favorite Decorating Show?

Friday March 23, 2012
Income Property HGTV Image
Do you watch interior decorating shows? I certainly do. If you've read my bio you know that I work on a couple of HGTV shows, so I'm obviously a little biased when it comes to my favorites, but I would love to know yours! Are you a fan of Sarah's House; Extreme Makeover Home Edition; Dear Genevieve? What is you like about them? And on the flip side, which ones do you really hate? (I hope they're not the ones I work on!)

Making Art Easy

Art.com Image
I was perusing the Internet looking for some new art sources the other day and stumbled uponArt.com. I think I might be in love.  Not only do they have a massive selection of varying types of art, they also have a handy (free!) tool that helps you envision what a piece will look like in your home. The 'view in room' feature makes it super easy to choose a print and custom frame, then upload it into an actual shot of your own room - how did I not know about this until now!? If you're the type who really hums and haws before you put something on your walls, this type of tool is a huge help.

A New Twist on Old Rug Tiles

Saturday March 17, 2012
Flor Carpet Tiles Image
I've made no secret that I really like the "second life" rug trend. I love the mix of old and new and I think they're really versatile. The only problem is that they're a little out of my price range. However, I was delighted to discover that Flor (the carpet tile company) has come up with their own version. At $5.57/sq ft they're definitely more affordable and you can play around with the sizes and patterns. Granted, they're don't have quite as much character as the real thing, but for people who just want the look they're a wonderful alternative. Check them outhere.

Books to Cherish - Be Your Own Decorator

Design Book Image
I've been writing about design and decor for a long time and I've always thought the natural evolution would be to write a great decorating book, but darn it, Susanna Salk has beat me to it. She's written exactly the book I would have liked to write. Using photos from some of the world's best interior decorators (and photographers) she walks readers through the process of designing a great room - without intimidation. It's all about being inspired by others and making their ideas your own. If you have any interest in design and decor - and since you're reading this post it's a pretty safe bet - you might want to consider picking up Be Your Own Decoratorwritten by Susanna Salk... not me.
